Born and living in rural Thunder Bay, Ron is a graduate of Walkdorf Junior College, Forest City, Iowa and Concordia College (University), Moorhead, Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and English.
In 1991, Walkdorf College presented him with the Alumni Distinquished Service Award for "Dedicated Service to Native Canadians, as consultant and advocate on their behalf, and for extraordinary contributions to the human development field."
His BOLD use of colour reflects both his Norwegian heritage and his love for the north country - particularly its people. He has an uncanny ability to go around cultural barriers and capture the essence of his subject.
His paintings have been sold in Canada, the United States, the Netherlands and Norway.
He attributes his inspiration to his late Dutch born wife Anneke,
and his children Mark, Erik and Linda.
